Arising from Cologne, Germany's Mecca of techno music, VIMES have gained international recognition for their unique electronic, yet organic sound and astirring visual live set made for dancing to and falling in love with - seamlessly combining live instruments with digital elements and blending their deep mesmerizing sound with uplifting pop elements and fragile though vivid vocals.
Grammy nominated musician and producer Chilly Gonzales (Feist, Peaches) praised VIMES and their debut track after a joint studio session: "Great voice! (...) The overall aesthetic, the darkness combined with the beats - I think it's very appealing. A lot of potential. I'm a Vimes fan!" Following several European headline shows and an invitation to join Hot Chip on stage in Mexico, they are ready to pack their bags again.
For 2013 VIMES have already confirmed appearances at showcase festivals SXSW, Canadian Music Week, Eurosonic Noorderslag as well as further shows in the U.S., Canada, South America and Europe soon to be announced. Recently mentioned as one of the most influential groups on modern music in Germany by The Guardian, VIMES have come a long way despite only just having self-released their debut single 'UpStairs' in late 2012, through Humming Records / Rough Trade.
VIMES are Azhar Syed (Vocals, Guitar, Bass) and Julian Stetter (Electronics, Guitar). Born in Nigeria to an Indian couple of humanitarian workers and raised all across Europe, Azhar went on to study visual arts in Germany where he met striking music student Julian whilst writing for respected national music magazine 'Intro'.
Accompanied by a live drummer and visuals artist, the two-piece has only been in this constellation for little over a year. VIMES are currently working on their debut album with producer Jochen Naaf (Emeli Sandé, Lady Gaga) and are set to release new material early 2013.
